Go to church.
My life has got a whole pile of busy in the last few months, the hours I used to spend studying or writing are gone, my mileage has gone through the roof and the horrid nasty person called Stress has entered my realm once more.
However it has made each quiet moment I get with the Lord even more precious. And quiet is a relative term. How do we make those moments in noisy traffic, supermarkets or the middle of our work? It’s amazing and possible.
And then we get to Sunday and think of all the things we could do: walk the dog, swim, hike, shop, make dinner, meet friends etc. But I love going to church, on the Sundays I have to miss it, I really do miss it. I love that coming together, joining with others and singing, praying, listening to God. I love the fellowship of other Christians and the question of searchers.
I get emails from spas, restaurants, hotels, a whole gamut of junk mail that tell me to treat myself, have a pamper day, enjoy blah blah blah. But when I want to pamper and treat me I spend my time in worship of the Living God. When I give myself in worship, I do it without conditions, I don’t expect anything back in return but I do. Because we have a loving God, we have a God who loves us so much he wants to have a deep personal relationship with each of us.
So I grasp the moments in the busyness of life, I fence off time to devote myself to Him – regardless of what else must be done, prioritising Him above all else. God loves me and works in me day by day helping me love. How can I not love Him?
We are told to love others and for someone coming from no self love, that’s easy, but loving ourselves that is a whole other drama. But once a week I treat myself and I go to church. Try it, it might help you in the story of your life.
