After exploring how to say no and linking in with last week’s heel digging I am ready to think about saying yes.

Billy Graham said. “God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.”

“The highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service. The greatest form of praise is the sound of consecrated feet seeking out the lost and helpless.

We are called to serve, to serve the Lord and to serve our fellow human beings.

We get weary, we get worn down, do we?

If we are being self sufficient, doing God’s work not in his strength but our own then, yes we get weary.

If we are working through our own strength not only are we going to get tired but we are

NOT working for God’s GLORY

Or it could be that we have been looking at the results we get instead of the Saviour we serve.

We are God’s tools, we have to say yes.

Our yes should include frequent prayer, frequent help requests and frequent strengthening requests.

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10

We must be sure of our motives for saying yes:

Pray about our yes

Pray about our no

Pray for guidance as to whether say yes or no

My friend is exhausted, he took on a role that he thought was something else and has ended up in a pile of stress. He rings me from time to time (every week) complaining and grumbling. When I suggest he stops it, he tells me, it is needed, no one else will do it, there are good bits to it – the usual excuses.  I think he actually likes being needed enough to counteract the stress.

We need to say Yes

Say YES to God

Yes to others

Our awesome, astonishing God has called us to be his disciples, to go and proclaim the gospel.

Only by living our life (all the time) in Christ can we be seen as God’s children

This will include doing stuff for folk, whether they do something back for us or not

This will include doing stuff we don’t want to (note to self) in places we don’t want to go with people we don’t want to be with.

This will include being uncomfortable

But it will be
